Adapt OER

The recent explosion in the creation of OER means there are many good open resource options.  Adaptation allows an instructor to add their own essential content, along with information from other experts, to create a custom resource that best supports their course.

OER that are not restricted by the no-derivatives license can be adapted to suit particular teaching and learning needs.

Adaptation Process

Step 1: Find existing OER Materials

Look to see if someone published an OER that meets your needs. If not, look for OERs that you can adapt or combine into a new OER. Use the course learning objectives to help focus your search and choose OERs.

Step 2: Determine your needs

After you find an OER, think about what you need to modify? And how much of the OER needs to change to meet course needs?

Step 3: Make adaptations

Check the OER's Creative Commons license to see if modifications are allowed and organize your OER to align with learning objectives.
