Information on interlibrary loans for students

Eligibility

This service is available to all Saskatchewan Polytechnic students, faculty, and staff, except for:

  • distance users
  • dependent's family members
  • external borrowers
  • those with inactive accounts or over $10.00 in fines

We only supply resources related to work or program studies.

How long does it take to get your book or article?

Articles are usually filled within 2-3 business days, while book requests may take 7-10 days.

The time to obtain an item depends on the request details, where the lending library is located, and how long it takes to receive the item. If the item is not in Canada, requests from American and international libraries are handled case-by-case.

Articles are delivered via email.

Students, faculty and staff will be notified by email when books arrive for pick up.
Pick up materials at the campus front desk and return them there or through the library book drop.

Copyright: All requests must follow Saskatchewan Polytechnic Fair Dealing Guidelines

Renewals

Renewals depend on the lending library's policy and due date. Borrowers cover associated costs and fees. Request renewals at least 7 days before the due date.

For ILL renewal inquiries, please contact: ill.library@saskpolytech.ca

Maximum Number of Requests: Students can submit up to ten requests per research project, related to their course of study. Faculty and staff can submit unlimited requests related to their teaching or research.

Costs/Replacement Fee for Loss or Damage

The library assumes responsibility for all borrowing costs, up to $50.00 (Cdn.) per request, as charged by the lending library.

Internal borrower(s) (Saskatchewan Polytechnic client) is responsible for replacement charges, as assessed by the lending library, for damaged or lost interlibrary loan materials.

Overdue Fees

Overdue fees follow the fine policy of the lending library. If the lending library does not have a fine policy the user will be charged the lending Library’s replacement cost of the item.

Violation of Interlibrary Loan Privileges

Borrowers who repeatedly disregard these regulations may lose their privileges. Reasons for suspension include failure to pick up or return materials on time.

Not all materials are available from other libraries

While we strive to fulfill all requests, some materials may be challenging to borrow from other institutions. Occasionally, we may be unable to supply the requested article or material due to various reasons, such as unavailability or restrictions:

  • Items already owned by our library, including e-books, are generally not available for loan unless they are lost or already borrowed with a hold placed
  • Non-circulating or restricted items, digital copies of entire journal issues or volumes, class materials like textbooks, and materials available through the Public Library (e.g., fiction, non-fiction) are excluded
    • Leisure reading or non-program related materials should be referred to the local Public Library
  • Requests may be denied if the material is not found, lending libraries cannot fulfill the request, or the item must be purchased directly from the supplier.
