Earth Day 2024

Earth Day 2024 is coming up in April. Join the Library in learning how to reduce waste and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Leading up to Sustainability Day, the library will be showcasing resources and providing information about waste reduction. Join us for the following opportunities:

Starting April 5, clothes mending kits are available in the Library while supplies last. The clothing industry is one of the biggest polluters, and textile waste has grown dramatically due to fast fashion (circulareconomymonth).

Moose Jaw will hold a mending clinic on April 3 from 12:00pm-1:00pm in the Library. Learn how to sew on a button, fix a pull in a sweater, mend a split seam, and patch a hole. This is a come-and-go event but seating is limited so come early. Participants will receive a mending kit.

Drop by the front counter at the Prince Albert campus library to learn how to darn a sock or sew a button on. Demonstrations are on April 8 between 11:00am and 3:00pm.

Learn how easy it is to compost on April 16 from 12:00pm-1:00pm. Lisa Howse, Compost Education Coordinator with the  Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council (SWRC), will lead a webinar on how to  turn kitchen scraps and yard waste into rich fertilizer for your garden and yard while reducing greenhouse gases. What a waste! Don’t throw it away in haste!
