Indigenous Storytelling

 

The Library will be hosting five Indigenous Storytelling events during the month of February. This year’s events will feature Dickie Yuzicapi, Cort Dogniez, Lyndon Tootoosis, Ryan Moccasin, and Solomon Ratt.

 

Viewing Options:

  • Individual – for blended or online classes – faculty, staff and students must register individually.
  • Screening in the classroom, then viewing as a group; contact Phil Jarowicz to set up.

 

Fulfilling Instructor Competencies

Bringing your class to an Indigenous Storytelling event is one way to support the instructional competency Indigenization & Reconciliation (p. 6).

 

Event Details & Quick Registration:

  • Tuesday February 1: Dickie Yuzicapi, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (register here)
    • Dickie will tell stories about the creation of the earth from the lineage of his family, which includes Ojibway, Cree, Metis, and Dakota culture.
  • Thursday, February 3: Cort Dogniez, 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.  (register here)
    • Cort will share traditional stories through the Metis perspective.
  • Friday, February 4: Lyndon Tootoosis, 11a.m. – 12:30p.m. (live)
    • This event is in-person and currently invite only.
    • Lyndon will share stories that inspire pride in Indigenous heritage and build relationships across cultures. 
  • Monday, February 7: Ryan Moccasin, 1 p.m. – 2p.m. (register here
    • Ryan will discuss his book Suicide Empire, the writing process, and what led him to authorship
  • Tuesday, February 8: Solomon Ratt, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (register here)
    • Solomon will share traditional Cree stories. Some of which can be found in his book Woods Cree Stories.
