Open Education Week Events (March 1 – 6)

Open Education Week is March 1st - 6th and Sask Polytech Library will be hosting a series of events.

Why should you consider attending these events?

After tuition, textbooks are the highest cost for students. The Open Movement strives to break down barriers of "access, affordability and equitable design principles that lay the foundations for open practice" (Coolidge, n.d.). It's been a stressful year, with a pandemic, transition to emergency online learning, and a lack of access to our regular learning resources. We would like to offer some solutions.

But what does open mean? How do you access these resources? Join us for one or all events during Open Education Week and become a part of this important conversation.

Karen, Abdul, Stephanie and Stephen have something in common… and it's not just that they are faculty at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. In the 2019-2020 academic year, each of these instructors received funding from the library to create Open Education Materials or commit to zero textbook costs. This presentation will close up a week of activities hosted by the Library during Open Access Week. Panelists will discuss their experiences creating Open Education Resources, the challenges they face, as well as the lessons learned along the way.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • What does open mean?
  • Benefits to students of using an open resource
  • How can an open resource be used?
  • Pedagogical considerations
