Teaching and Learning Today (TLT) 2020

Unlocking Doors to Learning: Designing and Delivering for Diverse Learners

May 5-6, 2020 at the University of Regina Campus

Regina, Saskatchewan

The Teaching and Learning Today (TLT) conference will be held on May 5 – 6, 2020.  This engaging event for educators, administrators, learners and interested community members is being hosted collaboratively by Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan.

Our theme of inclusion will be focused on research, technology, and pedagogy.  What can we do to continue “unlocking doors” within our institutions?  What can we do to embrace diversity amongst learners and optimize learning opportunities?  The purpose of this conference is to both inform attendees and support paradigm shifts within postsecondary education. In particular, we encourage presentations considering ways in which Reconciliation may be used to support decolonization within education.  In this manner, we are calling on all academics, scholars, students and community members to submit a proposed presentation in one of the following four pathways:

  1. Identifying the Doors – Recognizing the barriers (e.g.: non-traditional learners, language barriers, technology gaps, intersecting diversities)
  2. Handing Over the Keys - Decolonization (e.g.: learner driven institutional priorities, calls to action, success of Indigenous students, International education)
  3. Unlocking the Doors - Inclusive education and accessibility (e.g.: student and learning supports, open pedagogy, peer mentoring)
  4. Every Door is the Right Door – Meeting learners where they are (e.g.: co-creating syllabi, curriculum, student choice in assessment)

Teaching and Learning Today 2020 will create a holistic learning platform that can be used by attendees, and others, who are promoting, supporting, or leading diversity and inclusion efforts. To this end, each session may be recorded and placed on our website as an open resource for the Teaching and Learning community. Additional resources that supplement these presentations will be developed in workshops or panel presentations on the last day culminating in a working framework for promoting diversity and inclusion.

If you are interested and able to support this conference with a 20–minute or 45–minute presentation, on a panel, with a lightning talk (auto-advancing 20-slide deck), or poster presentation on one of the above four pathways. Please submit your proposal by January 31, 2020 using Google Forms.

Our inter-institutional advisory committee will review and send invitations to accepted presenters by February 28, 2020.
